Well here we are in a new year and days from returning to work. I would have to say that 2010 was a great year for me and I look forward to another great year in 2011! I don't like to look back at a year and see what is the best or the worst of the past, but I do love looking forward to the future and what it brings to me and the rest of the world. Since I focus on a small part of my life in this blog I will continue to keep this food related and focused on the happenings at the park. So now I look forward to 2011 and what we can possibly do to make a mark on the food world from my little space in life!
I always look to improve the food we serve and bring new ideas into the park so the one place I have loved and hated has been the Rice Bowl, great food served from what I think is a lousy location for this style of food. So what do we need to improve the location or the food. Well our friends in games have a new game going down the street from here and I like the idea of adding. We already serve a great Butter Chicken Rice Bowl and lately I have been eating a lot of Indian food, so I want to keep the rice theme, but go completely Indian with great vegetarian dishes and another curry on rice and even something different like this sandwich served on fresh Naan bread. Lots of things to think about still so on to the next location and see what we can do!
The big talk around the office when we were packing up for the season was fresh burgers, they have been every where this past year and I know they are a great product to build a menu aroundm but it also scares me to have that type of product in the park, so during this break I have had all sorts of fresh burgers and tried to understand why we should do this or not do it. I understand the thinking of people when they want a burger, it has to be made of quality meat, juicy, flavourful, have a great bun that adds to the enjoyment and flavour of the burger and make my mouth water just looking at it. Then I think of the type of people we have at the park and I know when they are hungry they just want to eat so they can get out on the next coaster. But that is only 90% of our visitors of maybe 95% of the visitors, so we still have 5% that want an experiencewhen it is time to eat and this drives me to make them happy as well and we provide thrills, not only in the park but in our restaurants as well and I can see this crazy style of burger being a highlight in Coasters! If you ever go to Las Vegas you have to check out Strip Burger and try the signature Blue Cheese Burger or come by the park this summer and try out one of the new burgers we come up with, will it be a housemade patty, I doubt it, but I am going to taste at least 20 - 30 new patties to find the right one to be our signature burger at Coasters and have some wild toppings to entice you into testing your taste buds at the park.
We are doing some work to our food service area at the front of the park so we can offer a better selection of food to carry around the park or take home with you at the end of the night. And what is better than great food served in something you can eat or carry around with you easily. There is the Walking Taco, several different version exist out there, but hat will it be like at our park. There is this item here served in a cone with a crispy chicken fillet and coleslaw topped with a spicy aioli. Not sure how something like this would work, but it would be fun to play with and work on this idea. I remember getting fish and chips served in a cone like this, so what's to stop us from serving more items like this. Also at the front gate we might serve our new hand dipped corn dogs that we atrted last year. I loved this item since it was nothing like a pogo that we had served in the park before, but more like a great hot dog wrapped in a delicious corn bread mmmmmmmm. Lets hope you can come by and try one of these this year, I know you will like them as much as me and all the people that were able to find them in the park last year.
To continue the theme of fried food, weather it's on a stick or on a plate, we will push the boundries of taste and calories to keep our park visitors happy! there will always be Funnel Cakes with fresh strawberry topping. Lots of mini donuts, thanks to Tiny Toms. We will have fried Oreo Cookies available in the park again and maybe evenfried Peanut Butter and Banana, a take on the Kings Favourite food when he was home in Gracland. Well maybe not exactly what he ate but a take on his famous sandwich that would work well at Wonderland. Don't come looking for fried butter in the park, I think that was a fad that won't fit in here. I for one love to try anything in a fryer so look out for a few experiments throughout the season, especially if we have a fryer at the front gate!
Here are a couple other items that I have tried out in the world last year that could end up in the park, grilled cheese with mozza sticks or a Lasagna Sandwich, who knows what you will see in the park this year, but I look forward to the next couple of months testing, trying and looking for new food in the park!
