During the holidays I got hooked on Food Network show called Big Chef Takes On Little Chef, it stared Heston Blumenthal, chef of The Fat Duck Restaurant. I enjoyed seeing a chef take on a chain that is frequented by people that would never step foot inside their restaurant. Chef Heston not only did a great job, but he understood the people that ate there and was amazing taking in this cook (not really a cook) from the restaurant and teaching her how to cook. The fellow that hired him want blue sky thinking and I felt he was really out of touch with his client base, so it made for great drama. As I watched this show I really wanted to learn more about Heston and why he would take on a job so out of his realm. I watched his other show called in Search of Perfection and found that this guy really loved to push the boundries of cooking. So now I had to learn more, I looked for the book In Search of Perfection, but it was not available at my favourite cook book store on Young and Bloor, so I picked up this book. Not only did it have the recipe for Black Forest Cake I really want to try, but it is well written with a great story and amazing pictures. I really recommend this book to people that can cook.
