We have been working hard to renovate Maggie Browns so we can reopen as Maggie's Smokehouse and Fried Chicken Joint. Look for some of these great new menu items coming to Maggie's and available on the Dining Plan.
Smokehouse Tri Tip Sandwich Smokehouse Pulled Pork Kick'n Chicken Sandwich
We are also adding to our menu, fresh Rotisserie Chicken, you can get a 1/2 chicken with 2 sides or you can get this chicken on you tossed or Caesar salad. We were thinking about all the people that came in to Maggie's and asked for healthier choice and we had to bring in this delicious, moist chicken. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
You may not have tried the Cronut or the Wookie or any of the hybrid pastry combinations that are coming out this season, but here is your chance to try our contribution to the crazy world of who has the next craze in FOOD!!!!
We have it here with the S'moreo a cross between our S'mores and an Oreo: we have taken the cookie from our traditional s'mores and substituted the graham crumb with oreo crumb, we stud the chocolate medallion with crushed oreos and then fill the middle with gooey marshmallow filling. A super Sweet combination that will help keep you warm on a Fall night at the park.
Make sure you check out Canada's Wonderland Facebook page for the Funnelcake Faceoff where you can vote for your choice favourite funnelcake to be featured in the park for a week in June. The choice is between Cookies and Cream, this funnel cake is cooked fresh and topped with cream cheese icing, soft ice cream, crumbled Oreo cookies and chocolate sauce. We tested this out with a few people and the comments were amazing. If this is what you want to try make sure you vote for this! If you want to try something different then the Fire Roasted Fuji Apple Funnelcake is for you. The Apples are sweet and smokey served warm on our fresh funnelcakes with soft ice cream and a salted caramel sauce. All the flavours that are hot right now and when you get them on a dessert like this you can't go wrong. I have a hard time choosing which one I like the most so I look forward to having our team make the one you choose. Once the winner is anounced we will be serving the winner for one week only at our 3 funnel cake locations in the park. Good luck to you and may the best funnelcake win!
We are out getting the park ready for the up coming season and want to make sure you know of the new ride in the park and what you can do to help raise money for Sick Kids, make sure you check out the web page to see the bidding process for the first 3 trains on the new ride. So far we have raise $5,000.00 but I know we can do better, go here to raise money for SickKids . While on this link check out the new photos and see how this crazy track is coming together. I am not sure if I will ride the Leviathan, but I know I will be at the expanded Thrill Burger to serve all the people on this side of the park.
Not only do we have a new ride in the park, but we have a new chef as well, so when you see a skinny chef this year walking the park, (I have not lost that much weight) say hi to Joseph Soroka. He comes to us with some great experience and he will help to build the food and beverage department higher than we have been! All of us are now working towards a better food experience with better staff, expanded park choices and new menu items. Speaking of new items in the park, the bun, the hot dog and some of the toppings have been chosen for the new Alpen Top Dog. Come on by and Try the Lord of the Rings, or The Dog House or one of the other crazy concoctions we come up with. We are just finalizing the menu for the season, but I know many of our returning season pass holders will like what we have done. I will keep you posted and put up some of the new pictures next month when we have everything finalized. We might even have a little free style happening in the park!
This is a video of the new menu board at Backlot cafe, we had a lot of fun doing this and everyone that participated really enjoyed eating all the food, thanks to the crew at Twist for putting this together. By the way I did this with my new iphone so it was a little shaky, but you get the idea.
Busy night in the park tonight with Summer Kickoff, lets hope summer gets here soon, cause this rain doesn't help.
Well here we are in a new year and days from returning to work. I would have to say that 2010 was a great year for me and I look forward to another great year in 2011! I don't like to look back at a year and see what is the best or the worst of the past, but I do love looking forward to the future and what it brings to me and the rest of the world. Since I focus on a small part of my life in this blog I will continue to keep this food related and focused on the happenings at the park. So now I look forward to 2011 and what we can possibly do to make a mark on the food world from my little space in life!
I always look to improve the food we serve and bring new ideas into the park so the one place I have loved and hated has been the Rice Bowl, great food served from what I think is a lousy location for this style of food. So what do we need to improve the location or the food. Well our friends in games have a new game going down the street from here and I like the idea of adding. We already serve a great Butter Chicken Rice Bowl and lately I have been eating a lot of Indian food, so I want to keep the rice theme, but go completely Indian with great vegetarian dishes and another curry on rice and even something different like this sandwich served on fresh Naan bread. Lots of things to think about still so on to the next location and see what we can do!
The big talk around the office when we were packing up for the season was fresh burgers, they have been every where this past year and I know they are a great product to build a menu aroundm but it also scares me to have that type of product in the park, so during this break I have had all sorts of fresh burgers and tried to understand why we should do this or not do it. I understand the thinking of people when they want a burger, it has to be made of quality meat, juicy, flavourful, have a great bun that adds to the enjoyment and flavour of the burger and make my mouth water just looking at it. Then I think of the type of people we have at the park and I know when they are hungry they just want to eat so they can get out on the next coaster. But that is only 90% of our visitors of maybe 95% of the visitors, so we still have 5% that want an experiencewhen it is time to eat and this drives me to make them happy as well and we provide thrills, not only in the park but in our restaurants as well and I can see this crazy style of burger being a highlight in Coasters! If you ever go to Las Vegas you have to check out Strip Burger and try the signature Blue Cheese Burger or come by the park this summer and try out one of the new burgers we come up with, will it be a housemade patty, I doubt it, but I am going to taste at least 20 - 30 new patties to find the right one to be our signature burger at Coasters and have some wild toppings to entice you into testing your taste buds at the park.
We are doing some work to our food service area at the front of the park so we can offer a better selection of food to carry around the park or take home with you at the end of the night. And what is better than great food served in something you can eat or carry around with you easily. There is the Walking Taco, several different version exist out there, but hat will it be like at our park. There is this item here served in a cone with a crispy chicken fillet and coleslaw topped with a spicy aioli. Not sure how something like this would work, but it would be fun to play with and work on this idea. I remember getting fish and chips served in a cone like this, so what's to stop us from serving more items like this. Also at the front gate we might serve our new hand dipped corn dogs that we atrted last year. I loved this item since it was nothing like a pogo that we had served in the park before, but more like a great hot dog wrapped in a delicious corn bread mmmmmmmm. Lets hope you can come by and try one of these this year, I know you will like them as much as me and all the people that were able to find them in the park last year.
To continue the theme of fried food, weather it's on a stick or on a plate, we will push the boundries of taste and calories to keep our park visitors happy! there will always be Funnel Cakes with fresh strawberry topping. Lots of mini donuts, thanks to Tiny Toms. We will have fried Oreo Cookies available in the park again and maybe evenfried Peanut Butter and Banana, a take on the Kings Favourite food when he was home in Gracland. Well maybe not exactly what he ate but a take on his famous sandwich that would work well at Wonderland. Don't come looking for fried butter in the park, I think that was a fad that won't fit in here. I for one love to try anything in a fryer so look out for a few experiments throughout the season, especially if we have a fryer at the front gate!
Here are a couple other items that I have tried out in the world last year that could end up in the park, grilled cheese with mozza sticks or a Lasagna Sandwich, who knows what you will see in the park this year, but I look forward to the next couple of months testing, trying and looking for new food in the park!
Yes there are only 4 days till we open for our Bank Days and just over a week till we open for general public. Not that there is any differencem there will be 1000's of people and everything open including the courtyard BBQ area and Planet Snoopy. Lots to look forward to and more coming as the summer goes on.
Over the past couple of weekends we have had several restaurants open for training and even a private group using the theatre for a dance comp. So we were able to try out Roadside Deli and test the new menu items. I was very happy to say we were able to keep up to the lines of staff and they were very happy with the food. The timing issues were worked out and we narrowed the selection of wing sauces to startm so there is the simple choice of Hot, BBQ or Honey Garlic. The new Veal Sandwich will be a big hit, the biggest complaint we have had so far is that the sandwich is to big! I love that type of complaint.
We also spent some time in the funnel cake places as well as Hot Potato, these are going to be great again and the staff are outgoing, eagar and ready to work. Lets hope we can keep this up. The best thing so far for me was to see that during training the managers and supervisors have picked up on the changes to the food and are willing to help make this a successful year! We have a good team and all of us are putting everything we can into making this the best season ever.
One of the changes happening this year has everyone excited and sad at the same time, yes I am sad to see Scooby go, but really excited to see Snoopy. So in Planet Snoopy we have done a few changes to improve speed and selection. At our pizza places we took out the Hawaiian Pizza but opened up more space at Snoopy Pizza. Something we need in the park is more Halal food, so we have changed the hot dog at Snoopys Supper Time (Grannies) this will always be a Halal Hot Dog, 100% chciken and very tasty.
The new sandwich bar at Backlot will be well received and I hope I can keep the cooks at the pasta bar animated and engaging, this is a chance for them to entertain guests. We decided to go with a 3 cheese sandwich served on Herb Foccacia, Turkey and Havarti on a Panini Roll and an Italian Baquette with pepper salami, tomato, boccacini and basil. mmmmmmmmmm
Now we have to get ready for a fun summer and keep me posted when you are in the park and visit our restaurants.
